Find me by the Sea

“I really don’t know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it’s because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, the ships change, it’s because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea- whether it is to sail or to watch it- we are going back from whence we came.” -JFK

Nothing like a few days by the sea to revive the soul. I get so stressed about work and school that sometimes I just need time to unwind and relax.

Lillying around Newport

I love summer for the sole reason that I get to wear all the cute Lilly Pulitzer pieces I have. Sometimes wearing Lilly in Boston in the middle of winter just doesn’t make sense. I love breaking out my brightest outfits during the summer because come Fall they get tossed in the back of my closet and I don’t see them again until Memorial Day.

Last weekend I went to Newport with one of my good friends Elyssa. We decided to go for the Newport Flower show hosted by the Newport Preservation Society at the Rosecliff mansion. Rosecliff is so beautiful, fun fact the old Great Gatsby movie featured Rosecliff in some of their scenes! We started the day with brunch and then strolled around downtown Newport for a little while. Thames Street is so great for shopping and people watching! We stopped at the Smoke House for some mudslides before heading over to the Flower Show. (BTW please excuse the ever present hair elastic on my wrist in all of the photos 🙄)

The Flower Show was fabulous! There were tons of vendors sent up and you can’t beat the view! We strolled through the ball room taking it all in.0C0921B5-30A4-42A4-9BBC-C214BD221BE000433523-C1E5-43AE-BF85-DE042F91868114B46B8F-0E7D-4EBB-8A9A-34E62CE811DBIMG_1319608E020F-E8A8-453F-A1EB-0EF78F2AA21ADA7ADEDB-8E4A-42E8-96F1-0E9BBE2BFCC3F15C2F92-F414-49DC-B80A-AED8BC95F1EB5506D1DF-B23E-4E28-AA64-71AA576D83E1

After the Flower Show we headed over to Newport Vineyards to do a wine tasting. I love doing wine tastings, and Newport Vineyards is one of my favorite wineries in New England! We had a great bartender Brenden who was so helpful and fun. One of my favorite wines there is the Great White, it is the perfect crisp white wine for a summer day. It was Elyssa’s first time there and she loved the Dry Rose!5784C6F8-0C04-4B6C-9779-30CB564EAE4E137201D6-CBE0-46F7-B8DA-979A7578836E46F01980-D618-4BE0-B98B-A803B14CED91

To end the day we headed over to my favorite spot in Newport, Castle Hill Inn. It is an absolutely stunning property and the view over the water can’t be beat. They have a gorgeous lawn with adirondack chairs that you can hang out in and have a cocktail. We grabbed dinner out on the patio. The food is delicious, but it wad the sunset that stole the show! We go there about an hour before sunset and it was so breathtaking to watch while we enjoyed a delicious dinner. The bartenders here know what they’re doing and make some of the best cocktails in Newport! I got a dark and stormy which didn’t disappoint.  330EAC94-3476-413A-9A7A-5198E2CD4BA97C6CC300-3F88-42BA-8061-18476198E1C557DFBF4F-69EA-409F-9FF8-93BD31903332B14080E3-25E2-4DDE-BF29-F6580705554FIMG_1277

It was a perfect day in Newport. Its just a short drive from Boston but when I do make the trip down I like to fit as much as possible into the trip! Newport has so much to offer, I can’t wait to go back.

The View from Above

Something I love about living in the city is you can always find higher ground. Yeah sure you can go do the Skywalk at the Prudential Center but there are also a million other views out there. One of the things I always miss when summer is over is roof top bars. There are plenty to choose from some of my favorites include the Atlantic Beer Garden, trust me I get it its down in the seaport district and is a pain to get to, however being on the south side of the city does provide some pretty amazing views if you sit up on the deck! Some other standouts in the city, The Colonnade Hotel, it has a pool enough said. Legal Harbor side, the Roof top at the Revere Hotel and two of my other favorites. Rooftop bars are fun and the Skywalk observatory is a tourist trap but Boston’s best kept secret for amazing views is the Custom House Observation Deck. The old Custom House, now a Marriott Hotel will let you go up to the observation deck for $4.00 (cheaper than the Skywalk observatory) and the views are amazing! I went last summer and snapped a view shots!

I seem to have lost my photos from the other side which offers views of the skyscrapers that dominate the north end. If you have a free afternoon I highly recommend taking the trip!

Now that last view I have is newly discovered and unfortunately you won’t be able to come see if for yourself, but pictures are the next best thing right? The views from my new apartment honestly are a huge part of what made me settle on this place! You may not find the exact view but you can find views in Kenmore square! I personally am a sucker for a good picture of the Citgo sign all lit up at night. I hope you go outside last night and checked out the sunset, because it was amazing whether you were on a rooftop, walking home from work or just peaking out a window. Beauty always follows the storm, I try to keep things light here but this weekend our country experienced some pretty scary things, but I believe that good things must follow, we must make them happen. Be nice to someone hold the elevator, offer up your seat on the T, just smile more. Yesterday was rainy and stormy here in Boston but then we experienced a beautiful sunset. Always look for the beauty that follows the storm.

Cape Day 1

It has been a successful if not cloudy first 24 hours on the Cape. My grandfather grew up spending Summer’s on the cape so did my father and I think there has only been one or two summer in my life when I did not make it down here for at least a weekend. I feel like unless you grew up going to the cape you may not understand. Maybe your family has always gone to Maine or New Hampshire and that is where you prefer to spend your summers. If that’s the case I doubt I can convince you the cape is better (because I know you could never convince me of your views). But I will still tirelessly love and defend the cape because it is where so many of my childhood memories are!

I’ll be down here for the next couple of weeks hanging on the beach, eating at some of my favorite places, and spending time with family and friends. Be sure to follow along, I will be showcasing some of the best of Cape Cod!
